Ulrich Schmid
A grouping.
Ulrich Schmid, head of the Embedded Computing Systems group at TU Wien. Six records, all of them in the involution line, and he is on every paper in it that this corpus holds.
That line is set out in full under fugger. What is worth recording separately here is the group's method rather than its results. The ECS group did not argue for a better binary circuit model; it proved that the existing ones were wrong, in fugger2016unfaithful, by picking a single concrete problem -- short-pulse filtration -- and showing that every bounded single-history channel gets its solvability wrong in one direction or the other. Only then did it propose involution channels, and only then did it take them to a fabricated ASIC in najvirt2015experimental and to a usable tool in ohlinger2021involution.
The corpus holds a good deal of work that proposes a model and argues it is reasonable. It holds very little that first establishes precisely what is wrong with the incumbents. That difference is what makes this group's records load-bearing in the-switch-or-the-curve, where the question is how much of the device a correctness argument admits.
Co-authors across these six include Matthias Függer, Thomas Nowak, Robert Najvirt, Jürgen Maier and Daniel Öhlinger; Michael Hofbauer and Kurt Schweiger appear on the measurement paper and are the hardware side of the group.
