| Abstract | The report has none. It opens directly onto a section headed Introduction on its first printed page, with no abstract between the title block and that heading -- read off the rendered page, since the copy is a scan yielding 56 words to text extraction. This was normal for the Cambridge Computer Laboratory technical report series in the 1980s: the two Cohn reports held here, UCAM-CL-TR-104 and TR-134, are laid out the same way. The series added structured abstracts to its web index later, retrospectively, but they are not in the deposited documents.
Not a candidate for enrich either. The registries do not know this item: it has no DOI, and a technical report from 1987 with no DOI is invisible to crossref, openalex, unpaywall and datacite alike. The record's identifier is its report number.
If an abstract is ever wanted, the Computer Laboratory's own index page for TR-109 carries a descriptive paragraph written by the series editors rather than by Joyce. That would be an editor's summary and not the author's abstract, and filing it in the abstract field would misrepresent its provenance, so it has been left out deliberately rather than overlooked. |
